Smart education on gadget use as an effort to prevent negative impacts on students of SDN 024 Rantau Upih Rokan Hulu Regency Riau Province

Abstract

Gadget use among elementary school children is increasing and often causes negative impacts such as decreased concentration, health problems, and potential addiction. Therefore, early education efforts are needed so that children are able to use gadgets wisely. This activity aims to provide education about the dangers of gadgets to students of SDN 024 Rantau Upih, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau. The methods used were counseling with interactive lectures, discussions, and the use of visual media through a projector. This activity was attended by students in grades 4, 5, and 6. The results showed that students were enthusiastic and active in the activity, and were able to mention the negative impacts of gadgets and how to use them healthily after the counseling. Visual media has been proven to improve student understanding, while verbal communication and nonverbal speakers help reinforce the educational message. Thus, this educational activity can increase awareness of students of SDN 024 Rantau Upih, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau about the dangers of gadgets and is expected to encourage wiser use of technology.
