Education on Natural Isotonic Drink Preparation (Coconut Water–Lemon Extract) to Prevent Dehydration During Fasting among Students at SMAN 5 Tapung, Kabupaten Kampar
Abstract
Dehydration commonly occurs during fasting due to limited fluid intake and may reduce concentration and overall health, while consumption of high-sugar beverages at iftar is not optimal for electrolyte replacement and poses metabolic risks. This community service activity aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge and skills in preventing dehydration through education and demonstration of natural isotonic drink preparation using coconut water and lemon extract. The methods included interactive counseling, demonstrations, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test involving 50 students of SMAN 5 Tapung. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the majority achieving a good category (>80%), as well as improved understanding and skills in selecting and preparing healthy rehydration drinks. Coconut water and lemon serve as a healthy, economical, and practical alternative for rehydration. Demonstration-based education is effective in enhancing knowledge and has the potential to promote healthier beverage consumption behavior during fasting.
